The editor is the person who prepares the text for publication in the newsroom. In the legislation it appears not as an independent sub-paragraph but as part of the quartet of news manager–editor–sub-editor–chief.

Two Editor Titles Peculiar to Internet News Sites

Art. 27/1 lists two additional editor titles that appear only at internet news sites:

Video editorArt. 27/1-s
Social media editorArt. 27/1-ş

The New Media News Editor

One of the 17 news fields is “new media news”. An editor working in that field may obtain a press card under Art. 19/1-g (and the equivalent sub-paragraphs). We covered the detail in the new media news editor.

The Difference Between Editor and Sub-Editor

The legislation lists the two as alternatives in the same sub-paragraph and does not give their definitions. We covered the distinction in practice and the silence of the legislation in who is a sub-editor and how they differ from an editor.

The Difference Between Editor and Reporter

We covered the comparison in reporter or editor: a comparison.

Being Counted in the Staff

In publications publishing official announcements the editor may also be shown in the intellectual worker staff. Official Announcements and Advertisements Regulation Art. 18/2-c: it is compulsory that they actually do the work corresponding to the duties stated in their contracts.

Conclusion

The editor is an alternative title listed in the Press Card Regulation in the same sub-paragraph as the news manager, the sub-editor and the chief, and, non-political publications aside, is tied to the condition of working in one of the 17 news fields. At internet news sites the titles of video editor (Art. 27/1-s) and social media editor (Art. 27/1-ş) are also listed; those two titles appear in no other list.
