The Risk of Surreptitious Advertising

Tourism reporting is one of the fields in which the line between promotion and journalism blurs most.

Official Announcements and Advertisements Regulation Art. 6/1: content published in periodicals visually, aurally or in writing in order to obtain a material or moral benefit such as creating demand for something or for an idea, or for the purpose of promotion, is regarded as an advertisement.

Turkish Airlines Advertising

The advertisements of public affiliates in the tourism field are the subject of the official announcement legislation. We covered the detail in whether Turkish Airlines advertising falls within official announcements.

The Foreign Press and Filming Permission

Foreign crews filming in Turkey for tourism purposes are subject to a separate permission regime. We covered the detail in foreigners filming and carrying out research in Turkey.

Access to Information

A freedom of information request may be used for tourism statistics and public investments. We covered the detail in what journalists can request from public bodies.

Its Relationship with the Reporter Title

The 17 fields are listed for the managerial titles. The title of reporter, by contrast, appears in every list in a separate sub-paragraph without a field condition (Art. 19/1-h and its equivalents). In practice the name of the field defines the reporter’s specialisation.

We covered the detail in who is a reporter: duties, rights and the press card and in the news manager: duties and the press card title.
