The number and the address vary with the type of work. Art. 8 of Law No. 6279 sets up three tiers.

Tier 1 - Six Copies

Books, magazines and newspapers - except local and regional newspapers - are deposited in six copies, one of each going to:

  • The National Library
  • Istanbul Beyazit State Library
  • The Library and Archive Services Directorate of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey
  • The Library and Documentation Department of Istanbul University
  • The Library of the Izmir National Library Foundation
  • A library to be designated by the Ministry in Ankara

Tier 2 - Local and Regional Newspapers: Two Copies

Tier 3 - Other Works: Two Copies

The works specified in subparagraphs (c), (ç), (d), (e) and (f) of Art. 4 and in subparagraph (a) of Art. 5 are deposited in two copies and sent to the National Library and Istanbul Beyazit State Library.

Those subparagraphs cover graphic works, slides, films, cassettes, electronic publications on optical and magnetic media, and maps and plans.

The Periods

Art. 9 sets the delivery period:

The article requires copies to be submitted complete and free of defect; defective or incomplete copies are replaced within the period.

How Is the Publication Type Determined?

For the "local and regional newspaper" distinction, the definitions in Art. 2 of Press Law No. 5187 provide the guide:
