Every second counts

Uptime is the percentage of time a server or website is reachable. A "good-looking" 99% actually translates to 3 days 15 hours of downtime per year; serious businesses target at least 99.9% SLA, meaning only 8 hours 46 minutes of downtime per year. A 99.99% SLA allows just 52 minutes annually.

This tool performs a single-point, one-shot check — it is not continuous monitoring. A real uptime strategy needs checks from multiple geographies every minute, automated email/SMS alerts and historical reporting. KEYDAL\'s managed hosting plans include 24/7 monitoring and automatic failover.

About uptime checks

A single check only says "right now, from our location". DNS propagation issues, regional BGP outages, routing problems from a specific ISP, or rate-limiting do not surface in a one-off test. Reliable data requires a monitoring service hitting your site from 5+ global probes once per minute.

Most outages happen outside business hours — late-night deploys, crashed cron jobs, expiring SSL certs, DDoS attacks. Without 24/7 monitoring your customer finds out before you do. With automated alerts the Mean Time To Detect (MTTD) stays within minutes; manual spot-checking can take hours.

A year is 365.25 days × 24 hours = 8766 hours. 99.9% uptime = 0.1% allowed downtime = 8.76 hours/year ≈ 43.8 minutes/month. 99.99% is 52.6 minutes/year ≈ 4.38 minutes/month. Always read the fine print of your provider's SLA for exclusions like "scheduled maintenance" — they massively change real availability.

Going from 99.9% to 99.99% drops downtime from 8.76 hours to 52 minutes — roughly 10× reduction. A single server won't cut it: you need multi-AZ deployment, load balancers, automated failover, database replication, redundant DNS and chaos-engineering tests. Costs roughly double, but for e-commerce, fintech and SaaS the saved revenue from avoided outages pays it back quickly.
